The University of Cambridge is offering a rare opportunity to see three Taiwanese documentaries by acclaimed directors during its Taiwan Documentary Film Day on Friday 21 November at St Catharine’s College. The films that will be showing are: Yen Lan-chuan’s ‘Let It Be’ (2005), Chung Mong-hong’s ‘Doctor’ (2006), and Lin Yu-hsien’s ‘Jump! Boys’ (2005).
Each work offers a charming glimpse and an intimate portrayal of life in Taiwan: from Taiwanese rice farmers who still manage to maintain a sense of humour despite increasing hardships which threaten to jeapordise their livelihoods; to the poignancy of losing a son to suicide and a patient to cancer as seen through the eyes of a Taiwanese doctor based in Iowa; and the tale of seven Taiwanese youngsters who aspire to be national gymnasts.
The film day is free and all are welcome. Please note that advanced registration is required.
