In June we’ll have the first People’s Cinema Shopfront Screenings, turning the former Habitat building on 17 Fitzroy Street in central Cambridge into a unique cinema space to entertain passers-by with a programme of imaginative short films, gems from the East Anglian Film Archive and work from local students – all completely free of charge.
Submit your short to People’s Cinema
If you’re interested in getting involved in People’s Cinema and would like to have your own short film screened in an empty shop unit, then we’d love to hear from you. Here are just a few suggested ideas and themes:
- Self-portraits and auditions
- Interviews with key, local councillors and politicians who shape the development of the city
- ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ - short works that display positive attitudes to our working city
We’re looking to promote local creative talent so if you’d like to submit a work on the topic of your choice, then our only conditions is that it lasts no more than three minutes and is suitable for all viewers.
Please send us your entries to:

Remember to mark your name, contact details and the film title clearly on your submission. We are happy to accept most digital formats but please advise us what software and codecs you used to create your submission. We may contact you if we can’t read it.
We prefer to receive submissions as data files burned to CD/DVD. We will accept USB sticks but cannot undertake to return them. If you have a version of your submission online to stream or download, please let us know.
Please send any queries via email with ‘People’s Cinema entry’ in the subject line. More details soon available on our new People’s Cinema website.
People’s Cinema is supported by Love Cambridge, the new city centre partnership, and will be developed as part of a wider initiative with local arts organisations throughout the summer months.
Our People’s Cinema screenings will be back in September to coincide with the Cambridge Film Festival (17-27 September).
