Last Thursday 11 June we launched our People’s Cinema project, turning an empty shop in central Cambridge into a unique cinema space. BBC Look East interviewed our director, Tony Jones, and students from Long Road Sixth Form College involved in creating the magazine-style programme designed to entertain passers-by.
Played on a loop, the films range from gems from the East Anglian Film Archive to a Michel Gondry pop music video. The screenings are on the following days from 3-7pm: 17-19, 21-24 June and 26-28 June. We’ll be incorporating new content throughout the month so if you’re in Cambridge, make sure you head down to the former Habitat building on 17 Fitzroy Street to see the latest additions.
People’s Cinema is part of a city-wide initiative called Changing Spaces, enabling local community groups and arts organisations to find innovative ways of using vacant shop units throughout Cambridge. It is supported by the Cambridge City Council and Love Cambridge, the new city centre partnership.
